Golf on two spectacular Troon managed 18 hole championship golf courses, choose among 44 wineries for a fun and varied wine tasting experience, stroll down the streets of historic Leesburg and finish off your day with a relaxing spa treatment and meal at one of Lansdowne’s excellent dining locations.
I took the opportunity to visit on a beautiful spring day to play both courses. Beautiful scenery, wildlife and fun awaits around every turn. My first nine was on the Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Course showcasing the Virginia countryside incorporating fields, woodlands, natural stone outcroppings and centuries’ old rock walls.
The second nine was designed by Greg Norman stretching along the Potomac River and Goose Creek. If you’re up for a challenge, play from the tips on holes 6 through 9 and experience the ‘hardest mile in golf’. I played from the forward tees and let the secluded and natural beauty of the course put me in a vacation state of mind.
After golf, lunch at Cotton and Rye was a great choice. The chef partners with local farms in Loudoun County to create true recipes that are native to the Old Dominion.
For wine lovers, did I mention there are a number of fabulous wineries to explore! The patio at Stone Tower is one of my favorites with an impressive tasting room and sweeping views as well as Fabbioli Cellars which offers a 7 fine wine tasting perfectly paired with small gourmet food bites.
On the way back to the resort, swing through the charming town of Leesburg. Stroll down Main Street and you might pass a wedding in progress in one of the charming historic homes – the Birkby House was the site for my wedding 12 years ago 🙂 Shoppers will find a variety antique shops and boutiques.
